COVID-19 Advisory 58 Announcement

COVID-19 ADVISORY 58:
WEARING OF MASKS INDOORS & UPDATES

Dear Students, Parents & Staff of the Sunway Education Group Community,

1. From Ipoh to Iskandar, Kuala Lumpur to Kuching, the year has begun with a flurry of activity across the various SEG institutions nationwide. Alongside our returning students, we welcome our new intakes to the SEG community, some of whom were eagerly checking out activities to participate in at the Clubs and Societies exhibitions held this week. We are also excited that classes have commenced at our new state-of-the-art Sunway International School campus in USJ 1, Subang, Selangor. All this has been taken place alongside the recent New Year, Chinese New Year and Thaipusam celebrations which we hope you have been able to enjoy with your loved ones.

2. In the interest of our campus community, the SEG COVID-19 Committee has always followed the various developments related to this virus as guided by the Government and related authorities. In the latest COVID-19 situation update from the Director General of Health, Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) dated 14 February 2023, the Government continues to remind us to stay vigilant, uphold good hygiene practices, ensure we are vaccinated, and test if we are feeling unwell. Mask mandates remain in certain instances, including for entry into public transport and medical facilities, while some State Governments have imposed requirements for workers in the F&B industry to remain masked while on duty. By and large, these approaches have served us well in our efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic, and today we are able to go about our daily lives with a sense of calm and confidence over our health and wellbeing, as well as of those around us.

3. With regard to SEG and the entities within (including Sunway University, our Sunway Colleges, and the Sunway International Schools), we have received feedback from various stakeholders and have gradually made our campuses more accessible and welcoming for all, while balancing the need to ensure that it remains a safe space. In light of the latest developments with regard to the COVID-19 situation, we have decided that the wearing of masks INDOORS will no longer be compulsory but HIGHLY ENCOURAGED. Similarly, masks continue to be HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to be worn when outdoors, especially so if you are in the high-risk category (with co-morbidities, not fully vaccinated/ unvaccinated etc.) and/or in crowded places. If you are feeling unwell at any time it may be advisable to wear a mask, as a precaution, as you seek professional medical guidance.

4. We believe these decisions are made in the best interest of our community especially as our student population grows and more activities take place throughout. It is truly heartening that our campuses are now bustling with activities again, and continued vigilance is key to everyone being able to enjoy themselves and make the most of their campus experience. We do appreciate all the understanding and support.

Thank you and take care always.
