#Smile With Sunway
World Smile Day is celebrated annually on the first Friday in October since 1999, to recover the original meaning and intent of the iconic smiling face symbol, encouraging people to act gently and make others smile. It is a day for smiles and gestures of goodwill.
To commemorate World Smile Day and Cleft Awareness Month, students from the Diploma in Communication and Diploma in Interactive New Media are organising a philanthropic fund-raising event on the 7th of October at Sunway College Boulevard.
With the saying ‘A little smile goes a long way’, smiling bring benefits such as improving one’s mood, immune system, and relationships, lowering blood pressure, relieving stress, reducing pain and increasing life expectancy.
Malaysian singer and songwriter Lunadira, 8FM radio announcer Dino Goh and 8FM news presenter Chin Win How will be making their appearance on the stage. The event also includes vendor booths, photo booths, carnival games, flash mobs and many other activities throughout the day.
There will be an infographic station to raise awareness by providing information and fun facts about World Smile Day. There will be booths hosting fun games such as ball pong, merchandise booths, appreciation booth for participants to leave kind messages for others.
The organiser hopes to bring change and create more awareness on the cleft community. The funds raised will be donated to the Cleft Lip and Palate Association Malaysia (CLAPAM) to aid members of the community that are diagnosed with the medical issue. Babies born with a cleft are nine times more likely to die before the age of one, and the fund raise can be used for life-saving surgery and cleft care. So, together we can all smile again.
Come and support the event by wearing something in yellow to redeem a mystery gift from 10.30 AM to 11 AM on 7th October. For more information, visit Facebook and Instagram @Smile With Sunway.
