The wizards of AUS
Somewhere over the rainbow where academic brilliance flies, students at Sunway College's Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) programme have, once again, conjured enchanting results in the November sitting of the Western Australia Certificate of Education (WACE) examination.
An outstanding 32% of students clinched the prestigious distinction of ranking in the top 10% globally, accompanied by the remarkable attainment of seven world awards.
Furthermore, 55% of AUSMAT graduates achieved an ATAR of 80 and above, placing them in the top 20% worldwide; and 74% secured a position in the top 30% globally, boasting outstanding ATAR scores of 70 and above.
The six highest achievers include Mireille Kho Wyern with ATAR 99.85, Tei Chun Wei with ATAR 99.6, Arshinie Saravanan with ATAR 99.55, Wendy Khong Wenxin with ATAR 99.35, Tan Zi Shan with ATAR 99.3, and Shelley Song Si Ni with ATAR 99.
Impressively securing a position in the top 0.15% globally with an ATAR score of 99.85, Kho attests, “Through Sunway AUSMAT, I have learnt to become more resilient and optimistic in the face of challenges.”
Further proving her achievements, Kho was also honoured with the Special Subject Certificate of Excellence in Chemistry.
Wendy Khong Wenxin achieved two Special Subject Certificate of Excellence awards in Mathematics Methods as well as Business Management and Enterprise, while Cheryl Lee Xin Qian received a Special Subject Award and a Special Subject Certificate of Excellence award for English as an Additional Language or Dialect.
While time management posed a challenge, Khong reflects, “Overcoming it has helped me develop essential skills that will prove valuable in the future.”
Nyam May Anne and Yee Shinnie, two other recipients of the Special Subject Certificate of Excellence in English as an Additional Language or Dialect, echo the sentiment that consistency is the key to success in the AUSMAT programme.
Nyam suggests prospective students, “When studying, find a method that works for you and stick to it. Alternatively, switch it up sometimes to keep it interesting, just like your choice of study area or the music you listen to.”
Beyond examinations, AUSMAT students have consistently excelled on the global stage. In a recent triumph, The Jason Squad, featuring Chan Rou Jing, Lim Zi Min, Rachel Term Zhi Xin, and Chin Jin Xuan, clinched 2nd place in the International Australian National University Business Case Competition.
In November, nine outstanding graduates from the programme were also awarded the prestigious Western Australian Premier’s WACE Bursary, adding another shining ruby to the crown of Sunway College's academic achievements.
It is these magical moments that further underscore the culture of academic excellence at Sunway College, showcasing the exceptional effort from its students, both in the realm of international competitions and prestigious academic recognitions.
