30 Senior Leaders from different industries experience “Perspective Leadership: Character, Courage and Commitment facilitated by Professor Dean Williams from Harvard University

The Center for Asia Leadership (CAL) recently organized the 3-day “Perspective Leadership: Character, Courage and Commitment” for 30 senior management and heads of department. Held at the Graduate Center, Sunway University, the programme was jointly facilitated by Professor Dean Williams, Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy at the Center for Public Leadership, Harvard Kennedy School, and Samuel Kim, President and Co-Founder of the Center for Asia Leadership.

Heizran Hamid, AVP Head of Direct Sales of Measat Broadcast Network Systems who attended “Perspective Leadership” with two other colleagues, appreciated that programme had been designed to “make it implementable for daily operations in an organisation”.

“I learned a lot in the three days under Professor Dean and Samuel’s guidance, and I would definitely recommend it to my other colleagues and friends,” he said.

Aaron Lau, Managing Director of AITLAU Management Services agrees, noting that the leadership framework of adaptive leadership is crucial in 21st century Asia.

“We need adaptive leadership to help organisations grow. Under this framework, we are pushed to break boundaries and build bridges to understand each other better,” he said.

Farizul Hazli Baharom, General Manager of Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (SPAD) says, “This program has taught me the importance of being flexible, and of being open to listen to the opinions of others.”

Samuel Kim says the programme is designed to help senior leaders develop “change agent” skills to better practice leadership in the 21st century.

“Leadership today requires adaptive skills to address disruptions at the workplace, which may come in the form of economic instabilities, digital convergence and socio-political turmoil. To generate innovation, growth and sustainability, it is important that leaders build positive and engaging work places,” he said.

The Center for Asia Leadership is committed to accelerating the development of leaders who are primed to ignite long-lasting change. Programmes are designed for youth, scholars and senior leadership, and are led by faculty and fellows from Harvard, Stanford and other Ivy-League universities.
