AUSMAT Students Gain Creative Insights from Renowned Illustrator Charis Loke

On 21 August 2025, Sunway Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) students had the privilege of attending a special guest lecture by Charis Loke, an acclaimed Malaysian illustrator whose works have been featured by international publishers and platforms including HarperCollins and Netflix. Charis has created striking visuals for celebrated authors such as Fonda Lee (The Greenbone Saga) and Sue Lynn Tan (Daughter of the Moon Goddess), making her one of the most sought-after names in contemporary visual storytelling.
The session, titled “Beyond Words: The Power of Visual Storytelling”, was attended by ATAR English and General English students. Charis shared insights on how stories can be enriched through visual features, demonstrating the unique role illustration plays in deepening narratives. She also spoke about her personal career journey, detailing how she transitioned from being a Biochemistry graduate at Brown University to building a successful profession in illustration.
