From Classroom to International Stage: SDS Student Wins Third Place in Asia Pacific International Arts Festival

Sunway Diploma Studies (SDS) proudly celebrates a remarkable achievement by one of its students who secured third place at the prestigious Asia Pacific International Arts Festival held in Beijing, China last August.

Khoo Zi Yie, a student in the Diploma in Digital Creative Content (DDCC) program, impressed both judges and audiences with her exceptional piano performance during a 7-minute segment at this highly competitive event, which saw participants from 37 countries across the region.

Her rendition of Deemo反映 earned her third place in the music and talent competition, distinguishing her performance with a unique choice of piece and style.

"Most participants played classical music, but I wanted to perform something that stood out," Zi Yie explained.

"Before I started learning the piano, I used to play a game called ‘Piano Tiles,’ which inspired me. I have always loved songs with a mix of fast and slow sections because they allow me to express emotion rather than just play background music,” she said.

This success is not only a personal victory but also a source of pride for the entire Sunway College community. Today, she holds a Grade 7 piano certification, reflecting her long-standing commitment and passion for music and arts.

“Winning third place in this international competition is a testament to the skills I’ve developed over the years and the unwavering support from my teacher and family. I’m also grateful to Sunway College for their encouragement and support throughout this journey,” she shared.

The Sunway Diploma Studies community congratulates Khoo Zi Yie on this outstanding achievement and eagerly anticipates the next chapter of her artistic journey.
