Sunway College proudly hosted the Sunway Diploma Studies Tech FYP Competition Showcase & Awards 2026, an on-site event celebrating the creativity, technical expertise, and industry readiness of its Diploma students in Information Technology and Computer Science recently.

The showcase featured 52 Final Year Project (FYP) teams, each presenting innovative technology solutions through live product demonstrations to a panel of rotating judges.

Under the guidance and mentorship of the College’s dedicated faculty members, students demonstrated not only strong technical competency, but also the confidence and professionalism required to thrive in today’s fast evolving digital landscape.

To ensure the projects were evaluated through both academic and industry lenses, the event welcomed a distinguished panel of industry advisors from established technology companies, alongside academic experts from Sunway University.

Their presence provided students with valuable real-world insights into market feasibility, technical implementation, and practical impact further strengthening the showcase as a meaningful bridge between classroom learning and industry expectations.

Gold Award

Title: ‘Smart Money & Meal: Expense Tracker with Receipt Capture and Food Recommendations’.
Participants: Leong Qiao En, Kua Qian Tong.

Receiving the competition’s top honour, this project was awarded RM150, along with a plaque and certificate. Smart Money & Meal addresses the everyday challenge of managing personal finances while encouraging healthier lifestyle choices.

By combining image processing for receipt capture with Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven data analytics to generate personalised food recommendations, the application impressed judges with its thoughtful design, strong technical depth, and maintainable system architecture. It achieved the highest overall score in the competition.

Silver Award

Title: ‘Predictive Driver Drowsiness Detection’.
Participants: Lim Zheng Shean, Chew Ezekiel.

Awarded RM100, together with a plaque and certificate, this project earned the second highest total score. Designed to improve road safety, the system uses computer vision to detect signs of driver drowsiness in real time.

The judges recognised the project for tackling a pressing public safety concern while demonstrating clear stakeholder value and a well-supported problem justification.

Innovating for the Future 5

Bronze Award

Title: ‘IntelliTrack’.
Participants: Foong Che Hui, Shireen Lee Ching Sze.

IntelliTrack received RM50, as well as a plaque and certificate, for its practical and well executed use of the Internet of Things (IoT) in asset monitoring.

Developed to support more efficient logistics operations, the project stood out for its reliable live demonstration and smooth overall functionality.

Most Innovative Award

Title: ‘Ramen for Heart’.
Participant: Law Yi.

This distinctive project was awarded RM50, a plaque, and a certificate for its fresh and creative approach to promoting mental health awareness through interactive media.

Ramen for Heart captured the judges’ attention with its originality and strong conceptual execution, earning the highest novelty sub score in the competition.

Best Presenter Award.

Title: ‘In-Anspired’
Participant: Tang Yi Hui.

Tang Yi Hui received RM50, together with a plaque and certificate, for achieving the highest presentation, question and answer sub score.

During the maximum 15-minute live product demonstration, she delivered a confident, compelling, and insightful presentation, clearly articulating the project’s value proposition and user centred design principles.

Best Poster Award

Title: ‘AI Powered Smart Parking’.
Participants: Teh Yao Xuan, Heng Fu Ming.

This project earned RM50, along with a plaque and certificate, for receiving the highest Poster sub score. Focused on reducing urban congestion through AI-enabled smart parking solutions, the team impressed the judges by translating complex backend mechanics into a clear, research-grade visual presentation.

Their A1 portrait poster was praised for its concise visuals, strong narrative flow, and clarity of communication.

Beyond recognising outstanding student work, the Sunway Diploma Studies Tech FYP Competition Showcase & Awards 2026 served as a valuable platform for students to gain exposure to industry professionals, recruiters, and potential mentors.

The event reflects Sunway College’s ongoing commitment to nurturing future-ready graduates by aligning diploma-level competencies with current industry needs and expectations.
