IT Services Takes Going Green Initiative Seriously
Continue taking the going green initiative further, IT Services (Sunway College) collaborated with Rentwise early this year to sponsor 35 sets of refurbished Dell desktops and LCD monitors to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jinjiang in Kuala Lumpur. A plaque has been installed outside the computer lab to commemorate its official opening.
Mr. Lanz Boo, Marketing Manager represented Rentwise whilst Tuan Hj Sauki@ Saufi bin Yusoff, Principal of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jinjiang signed the plaque to mark the official hand over of computers by the joint CSR partnership team between IT Services (Sunway College) and Rentwise. It was indeed a momentous occasion in the history of the school which acknowledged this key milestone in the information technology development program for its students.
Tuan Hj Sauki@ Saufi bin Yusoff, the Principal of SMK Jinjiang school together with the Guest of Honour, Ong Kiat Ming, the Section Head of IT Services (Sunway College) proceeded to inaugurate the computer lab in a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the presence of Wong Jian Xiang from IT Services (Sunway College) representative, Rentwise representative, teachers and students. The school has expressed full commitment to ensure the donated computers will be used extensively to enrich the learning experience of its students. The VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) frog program initiated by the Ministry of Education can now be implemented in a more effective manner.
As part of its ongoing CSR programme, IT Services Department was happy to collaborate with Rentwise refurbish the computers and will provide maintenance for the computers. Refurbished computers which are well maintained and serviced perform similar to new computers which are expected to last 3-5 years by providing students’ the opportunity to gain computer literacy and knowledge. The refurbishment of computers is in line with the “no wastage” policy shared by Sunway College and Rentwise, where both organisations aim to uphold green practices for a sustainable future.
The merging of reducing un-called for disposal of recyclable resources with providing opportunities for the less fortunate is an ideal way for both organisations to give back to society. The computers are hoped to boost the school’s computer-aided learning where the students will have the opportunity to gain wider knowledge, expanded horizons, and access to a better future.
