MUFY Talent Quest 2021: Feat of Firsts

MUFY Talent Quest (MTQ) 2021 returned after an absence in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and this year’s MTQ was different and a significant one in so many ways.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, MTQ 2021 was converted into MUFY’s first-ever online talent contest. The contest was open to all MUFY students and shortlisted contestant would stand the chance of winning the cash prizes: RM300 for the Champion, RM200 for the First Runner-up, and RM100 for the Second Runner-up. The reception from students was a very encouraging one.

MTQ 2021 also featured a voting element, in which, for the first time, both MUFY students and staff were given the opportunity to vote for their favourite performances. The contestant who gained with the highest number of votes would be awarded a cash prize of RM100 and given the title, “The People’s Choice”.

On 12 May 2021, the winners of MTQ 2021 was announced on a live stream event via the MUFYSC, SCKL YouTube channel. This was another first! The hosts of the live stream announcement were MUFY students, Falihah Hanani and Nadya Djuli. What a commendable job they did and what an experience it was for them.

Now, on to the winners of MUFY Talent Quest 2021. Emerging as the Champion of MTQ 2021 was Yeap Ying Ying, who danced her way to the top, beating the other contestants. Stephen Ng Sze Joo, the first runner-up, also won “The People’s Choice” and gained many fans with his smooth silky singing voice and musicianship. The Second Runner-up went to Yap Yi Rou, who showed her amazing piano playing skills.

All in all, MUFY Talent Quest 2021 was a commendable feat of firsts thanks to the fantastic collaboration of the MTQ committee and MUFY Student Council.
