Runway Debut of FDTS Young Designers

A Fashion Show in Conjunction with Sunway’s 50th Anniversary

In the heart of Sunway City, Sunway Pyramid Mall became one of four spots across Malaysia for yet another round of Mega Roadshow; this year to proudly commemorate Sunway’s 50th anniversary. With collaboration from Sunway Theme Parks, Sunway College FDTS was able to put on 3 days' worth of fashion shows from March.

The project was launched in 2023 where the Sunway Theme Parks team had come over to the Fashion Hub to brief our students on the collaboration project, which involved designing Wedding Costumes for Captain Quack and Lady Quack’s upcoming wedding ceremony. This would mark our students’ very first experience in costume-making, which conveniently aligned with FDTS’ holistic approach of training students to have an expansive range of skills. The students even got to dip their toes in the world of backstage management by hosting model casting calls, arranging model look cards, runway routes and all things needed to run a fashion show smoothly.

With the designs selected back in August 2023, the long months of development, material sourcing and sample making started, which was then followed by 2 full months of fittings sessions and production. As it was the students’ very first time making mascot-sized costumes, they had to innovate solutions for problems when it came to the cut, fit, drape and fastening of the garments for easy dressing.

On the day of the debut, frocks after frocks were sent down the LED lit runway, each design completely embodied by the talented student models from Sunway University and College. Captain and Lady Quack closed the runway in their romantic matching wedding set, garnering a sizeable cheer from the crowd.

Following the wedding fashion show was another fashion show 100% styled by our students using the Fashion Hub’s archive pieces. Creative styling was achieved by mix and matching, wearing clothes the wrong way and other unconventional styling techniques

Upon closing the show for the very last time on their last show slot, almost a year of hard work had come to an end with the students and models cheering in celebration of successfully completing their very first fashion show. This accomplishment gave the young designer students the confidence they needed to host their next fashion show, coming in May 2024.
