SCI Graduation 2023
On the 4th of November, Sunway College Ipoh held its graduation ceremony. The joyous event saw the conferment of certificates to more than 100 aspiring graduands from Sunway College Ipoh.
The ceremony was graced by none other than Puan Sri Datin Seri Dr. Susan Cheah, Exco member of Sunway Group, followed by Dr. Cheng Mien Wee, the Chief Executive of Sunway College Ipoh, Ms. Ng Beng Lean, the Group Registrar of Sunway Education Group, Puan Wan Nor Haliza Wan Harun, the Principal of Sunway College Ipoh, as well as the honoured parents, academics, administrative staff and dear graduands of Sunway College Ipoh.
Starting on a high note, the graduation ceremony commenced with a jubilant celebration of Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah’s most recent addition to his growing string of dazzling achievements, an honorary Knighthood of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. As the first Malaysian to receive such a prestigious and rare distinction from King Charles III, proud cheers were aplenty for the founder and chairman of the Sunway Group, as well as his outstanding accomplishment that has brought immeasurable pride to Malaysia.
Bringing cheer and a burst of colour to the graduation ceremony next, is the homegrown SCI Band, who performed a soulful cover of the songs “Gemilang” by Jaclyn Victor and “Don’t Stop Believin’” by the American band, Journey. The newly formed band consisted of two vocalists, Lee Zoey and Alexandria Monica Johnson with Andre Zachary Reutens as their guitarist. Needless to say, the crowd was wowed by the stunning performance!
On this momentous occasion, scholarships and awards were given out, and the graduands beamed as they received their certificates on stage before their parents who were equally as elated. The conferment kickstarted with the presentation of the Jeffrey Cheah Entrance Scholarship Awards, followed by the Platinum, Gold and High Achiever Awards for the ACCA programme. To close off the conferment on a sweet note, two special student representatives were invited to share a few words with their fellow graduands. Bringing their girl power to stage, Tan Sze Leng and Rachel Princessa Sukandi, both of whom were from the School of Business, have shared some insightful advice with their fellow graduands in the short yet empowering session.
The ceremony ended with a breathtaking performance led by two elegant dancers, the ethereal Cheong Leann and her sister, the graceful Chong Lecia. Dancing to “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons, the two dancers leapt into the hearts of the audience who responded with enthusiastic cheers and a big round of applause. After a photo session, the VIPs and guests were then treated to a delicious spread of good food over at the Lost World of Tambun.
