SDS Exposes School Students to the Cutting-Edge ‘Design Made Easy’ Workshop

Imagine creating jaw-dropping designs with just a few clicks! That's exactly what happened when 23 secondary students from Subang Jaya schools attended the ‘Design Made Easy’ workshop at Sunway College on 28th September.

The event packed with energy, tech magic, and creative sparks, brought students face-to-face with AI-driven design tools through Canva that could change the way they think about their futures.

Led by the dynamic lecturers from the Communication & Digital Creative Content program at Sunway Diploma Studies (SDS), students got hands-on with Canva with an exciting twist: AI-powered features that make even the least tech-savvy person feel like a design genius.

“Canva is ridiculously easy to use,” said the lecturer Alyas Jalil (John), who kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. “It’s like magic. You don’t need fancy software or years of experience—just a web browser and a creative spark. The AI does the rest, taking your design from average to amazing,” he added.

And it didn’t stop there. Alyas didn’t just teach students how to use Canva, he showed them how to master it. “Sure, the platform’s free and super accessible, but what’s the point if no one tells you how to unlock its true potential?” he said. “That’s what we’re here for.”

In a highlight of the day, students were challenged to design their own movie posters—right there, on the spot! The task was not just about showing off their creativity but about opening their eyes to the possibilities that lie ahead in the ever-evolving world of digital design.

“This exercise was all about unleashing their creativity and showing them that the future is theirs to shape,” said Alyas, clearly proud of the students’ work.

SDS is serious when it comes to leading the charge in digital creative content and visual design. The programme is on a mission to cultivate the next generation of creators.
