SDS Students See Malaysian Innovation Up Close at MIMOS
Students from the Diploma in Information Technology (DIIT) at Sunway Diploma Studies (SDS) had the opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom through an educational and experiential visit to MIMOS Berhad recently.
The visit provided students with first-hand exposure to a professional technology and research environment, offering a valuable opportunity to see how knowledge gained in the classroom is translated into real-world innovation.
Through the experience, students gained a deeper appreciation of how research, technology development and emerging digital solutions contribute to the advancement of industries and society.
During the visit, students participated in an introduction and briefing on MIMOS, where they learned about its role in research, technology development and innovation. They also gained insights into MIMOS's research activities, toured selected facilities, and participated in an engaging sharing and question-and-answer session with MIMOS representatives.
These activities enabled students to connect their academic knowledge with practical industry applications while gaining a better understanding of how technology professionals work in a dynamic research and innovation environment.
The experience also highlighted the importance of skills that extend beyond technical knowledge. Through direct interaction with industry professionals, students were encouraged to develop curiosity, confidence, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities and a mindset of continuous learning.
The exposure also broadened their understanding of the diverse career pathways available within the IT and technology sector and the evolving skills required to remain relevant in a rapidly changing digital landscape.
More importantly, the visit reflects SDS's commitment to providing learning experiences that extend beyond traditional classroom education. By connecting students with industry, exposing them to real-world environments and creating opportunities to learn directly from professionals, DIIT students are encouraged to explore, question, innovate and apply what they learn in meaningful contexts.
The MIMOS visit was therefore more than an educational trip, it was an opportunity for students to experience the industry, connect learning with practice, and envision their future as technology professionals.
