Sunway Student Awarded Columbia College’s Presidential Scholarship

Sunway College Canadian International Matriculation Programme (CIMP) alumna Jasmine Koh Su Lyn was recently awarded the Presidential Scholarship from Columbia College, Missouri, United States. The award is a full-tuition scholarship (totals to $90,816 for the entire four years) for Jasmine to pursue her undergraduate studies at Columbia College. This award is only given to ten students for the entire freshman class and it should be noted that Jasmine is one of four international students to be awarded one of the ten scholarships.

To celebrate Jasmine’s achievement, Kathy Trabue, International Admissions Manager of Columbia College flew in and arranged a surprise celebration with Jasmine’s family, friends and teachers in CIMP. Also present in the celebration were Jasmine’s father Steven Koh, mother Karen Lum, brother Julius Koh and grandmother Jenny Lum.

Actively involved with volunteering activities during her study in CIMP at Sunway College, Jasmine has always dreamed of studying in the United States. With the opportunity presented to her, Jasmine looks forward to meet more people and gain new experiences.

Jasmine graduated CIMP in December 2017 as an Ontario Scholar with an overall average above 90%. She also received the Community Service Award for contributing 413 hours of community service through various involvements and project at the CIMP graduation ceremony in last December. She was the Director of Community Service for the Sunway College Student Council and successfully carried out two community service projects for refugee children.

Every year, Columbia College hosts a Scholarship Day competition for new students to compete for one of ten Presidential Scholarship. The Scholarship is open to local and international students. To be considered for the Presidential Scholarship Competition, students must be admitted to the College before competing for the Scholarship and meet the eligibility requirements of a minimum 3.6 GPA and 1260 SAT (26 ACT).
