SDS Brings Classroom To Life With Hands-on Learning At Pasar Seni
The historic Pasar Seni was abuzz with excitement as students from Sunway Diploma Studies (SDS) converged for The Artful Eye, a dynamic fieldwork event designed to immerse learners in hands-on creative arts.
Spanning a one-day event recently, it showcased students' talents across various communication media and creative content disciplines, culminating in an inspiring blend of education and artistry. Organised as part of the program's experiential learning approach, The Artful Eye aimed to connect classroom theory with real-world applications.
According to Project Manager Mr. Abdul Shakur Aziz, the bustling Pasar Seni provided a vibrant canvas for students to experiment with innovative techniques. Each activity was carefully aligned with the course learning outcomes, ensuring students met specific academic and professional objectives.
“Our goal was to allow students to step out of the classroom and into a real-world creative environment,” said Project Manager Abdul Shakur. “This is where they truly bring their skills to life.”
The event kicked off with a photography session. Students from the Digital Photography course roamed the streets, capturing the essence of Kuala Lumpur through their lenses. From street vendors to local artisans, every shot told a story, reflecting the students' ability to deliver powerful visual messages.
The focus then shifted to video and film production. Teams of students from Video Production and Film Studies courses explored the art of storytelling, using Pasar Seni’s vibrant atmosphere as the backdrop for their projects. Under the mentorship of their lecturers, students learned to harness modern tools and techniques, transforming everyday scenes into compelling visual narratives.
“I’ve never been more inspired,” said Mr. Alyas Jalil (John), one of the event’s lead lecturers. “The students’ creativity exceeded all expectations, proving that hands-on learning is the key to mastering creative arts.”
Beyond the technical skills, The Artful Eye fostered a sense of collaboration and teamwork. Lecturers and students worked side by side, creating an atmosphere of mentorship and mutual learning. The success of The Artful Eye has set a high benchmark for future events. By providing a platform for practical learning and creative exploration, Sunway Diploma Studies continues to nurture the next generation of media professionals.
