SDS Students Dive Into Fintech Future With Expert Insights

‘Securities Commission Malaysia Shares Fintech Secrets in the Capital Market’

SDS students gained valuable insights into Financial Technology or ‘FinTech’ from the Securities Commission Malaysia organized by Diploma of Business Administration (DBA) last February.

According to the lecturer, Dr. Hurul Ain, SDS students especially those in business program must gain exposure to the application of FinTech particularly in the capital market beyond the online payment applications.

"Students should start gaining exposure of FinTech functions and applications, especially among business students. The knowledge and opportunities of FinTech in the capital market areas will benefit many companies, as it offers plenty of financing options to assist in external funding," Dr. Hurul added.

Meanwhile, the Manager of Digital Innovation at the Securities Commission, Ms. Chua Shar Min who was also the speaker emphasized the importance of FinTech in shaping the future and students should be educated about it.

"Contrary to popular understanding, FinTech encompasses more than just the online payment function. FinTech is the future, and it is only right that we equip students with the knowledge of it, and what better way to learn it from if not from the experts themselves,” she said.

Ms. Chua Shar Min’s extensive knowledge in FinTech and the capital market created a more robust sharing session with the participants. The contents comprised an overview of the FinTech industry, the digital agenda for the Malaysian capital market, FinTech applications and opportunities, and key initiatives to develop Malaysia’s FinTech industry.

SDS advocates for integrating Fintech education into academic curricula and utilizing experts' insights to facilitate learning in this area. This marks the first collaboration between SDS and the Securities Commission, and we look forward to more sharing sessions in the future.
