Sunway A-Level Alumni Wins 1st Runner Up For International Hackathon

Sunway Alumni Hackathon

Sunway College A Level alumni Eunice Gwee and Lee Wei Lun proudly secured the 1st runner-up position in the AI-themed international hackathon, Hack@10. With 226 participants across Southeast Asia, they dominated the competition with the creation of an AI model for the Social Good case study.

Along with another teammate, Eunice and Wei Lun developed an AI-powered student portal prototype. This system is intended to serve as a centralised platform for primary schools to high schools, facilitating student mental health regulation, lecturer assignment uploads, and announcements for school extracurricular events.

The core element is their AI partner - ‘Strange’, a 5 in 1 AI. Its functions are:

  1. Mental health regulator
    • Collect data on the student’s mental health through analysing chat history and reading their facial expressions over a period of time.
    • Initiate conversation with the student, using different psychiatrical approaches depending on the student’s mental health score.
    • Signal the school welfare department of any alarming cases.
  2. Personal Tutor
    • Analyse Lecturer assignment and answer uploads, then check student assignments and provide comprehensive guides and hints.
  3. Foster talents
    • Analyse chat history for student interests to recommend extracurricular activities.
