The recipe to attain the Top 0.5% in the world comprises hard work, an insatiable thirst for knowledge, and a nurturing environment. For Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) alumna Lysha Loke, she has become the pièce de résistance here at Sunway College.

In the March 2023 WACE examinations, Loke brought immense pride to the College by achieving an impressive ATAR of 99.5, earning her a distinguished place among the World's Top 0.5% for AUSMAT.

Her interest in AUSMAT was sparked after hearing glowing reviews from several relatives who undertook the pre-university programme. She found the unique and balanced assessment structure to provide students with numerous opportunities to improve their scores throughout the academic year.

The first aspect she looked for was an education institution which not only provides quality AUSMAT education and resources, but also a vibrant and conducive environment which spurs creativity and leadership.

“Sunway College has a diverse community, with people from different nationalities and cultures. It is truly exciting to experience a vibrant campus life where you can meet new people and try new things,” Loke shared.

Undoubtedly, another cardinal ingredient for Loke was stellar educators who elevated her onto the world stage. Loke praised the lecturers for their ability to understand the students well and always keeping the floor open for questions.

“Academically, AUSMAT holistically complements any shortcomings you may encounter during your revision or self-study.

“Students here are enthusiastic about learning, so the lecturers go out of their way to stay back and have consultations with their students, ensuring a full grasp of concepts. They know what you need, and they never miss the mark in helping you understand something.”

Proactiveness and enthusiasm are vital, and the AUSMAT programme genuinely helps nurture and bring out these qualities in students. Thanks to this, Loke is able to seamlessly advance into university and catch up with the syllabus.

The high achiever advises current and prospective students that communication is key. For some, transitioning from local education to an international syllabus may pose a hurdle, so it is crucial to have a good understanding of the syllabus. Be sure to consistently communicate with your lecturers and peers to stay aware of your standing and make the most of the resources provided.

“What you know remains the same, but how you express it is different. AUSMAT does an amazing job in guiding you to articulate your thoughts clearly and effectively, breaking through the confines of your own perspective,” Loke concluded.
